Our design approach, using light scattering pattern techniques, have enabled us to provide high efficiency display illuminations with very compact space envelopes, which use the minimum of light sources and electrical power consumption.
The light scattering patterns developed by POL are laser etched on to the surface of the mould tool to provide a robust, repeatable and very cost effective means of optimising the display illumination. Alternatively, for large format displays, we have developed a novel adhesive film to give the light scattering function.

POL has developed a number of display illumination solutions for major mobile telecoms and automotive manufacturers.
Our design approach and light scattering pattern techniques have enabled us to provide high efficiency display illuminations, with very compact space envelopes, and using the minimum of light sources and electrical power consumption.
The light scattering patterns developed by POL are laser etched on to the surface of the mould tool to provide a robust, repeatable and very cost-effective means of optimising the display illumination.
The display illumination methods developed by POL, typically for LCD backlighting, have also been applied to the keypad illumination of mobile telecoms products and other similar applications.
Keypad light guides of down to 0.5mm thickness are designed to give efficient light handling and even illumination intensity over the keypad area.
Optical features are incorporated to manage the correct transport of the light through the keypad lightguide plane, then laser etched scattering patterns are applied to the mould tool surface to finally optimise the evenness of the keypad illumination.
This provides a very efficient, compact and cost-effective solution with excellent illumination evenness.
POL has now scaled their display illumination technology from areas of around 10 square centimetres up to 10s of square metres for large area signage applications.
The patented technique allows large areas of sheet material up to 4m x 2m to be patterned with the light control patterns. These panels can then be assembled to produce large areas of illumination of many 10s of square metres.
By using POL’s thin backlighting technology developed for the mobile phone industry, the total depth of the large area signage system can be as small as 10mm and can be produced for RGB colour change.
